Alrewas (3rd time!!)

30th September 2019 – Alrewas (yet again)

Barton turn on the morning we left – Wow!
The decor is absolutely brilliant!
The starter!

We have really enjoyed ourselves at Barton Turn Marina – the place is very well put together and a real treat. It all comes at a price, but the standard and quality of everything there is top notch. A few days before we sailed we went to the Thai restaurant which is on the marina itself. The place is oozing atmosphere and you really do feel transported to another world!

But, far more importantly than that the food was exquisite! We had a set menu as we have no idea what any of the dishes are and we were not at all disappointed! I guess the way to describe it is it is similar to Chinese but with a whole lot more flavours. The dishes also tend to be a bit more spicy than your typical Chinese dish. We loved it and we will definitely go back over the winter for more!!

Anyway, all good things come to an end, as one pessimistic twat once said, and the time came when Wendy was feeling ready to face some locks! To be honest, as nice as the marina was we were itching to get going again! We decided to sail up the canal, originally thinking of getting to Stock on Trent, but that may be too far, especially is the weather is going to be very rainy. There is a tiny bit of river before we get to Alrewas and it is likely to be closed to traffic once the rain hits. Good old rivers, its things like this which makes the suck. Anyway, on the day we left the section was open so we went for it. It is small, but very pretty and has a really impressive weir along its path. The last time we sailed this section it was very low, now however all the floor plains along it we flooded!!
