20th – 23rd August 2019 – Barrow-upon-soar and Karl and Jackie

Leicester marina was lovely, but all good things come to and end and we sailed up the river, hoping to stay at Mount Sorrel. Since being in the marina we we no longer with Steve and Caroline but we had sort of vaguely agreed we’d catch up with each other again somewhere around Loughborough. So it was a bit of a shock when we had just finished going down in the first lock on the river, that Caroline turned up windlass in hand! What a coincidence!

Now we are back together the locks are a lot easier (especially for Steve and me) and we soon get to Mount Sorrel, only to find all the mooring is taken. This is pretty normal for a river, as there is very limited mooring. Anyway, after another short jaunt we get to Barron-upon-soar and manage to moor up near to the pub – result!
I let Jackie know where the pub is and we will catch up with them in the morning.

Jackie and Karl came and found us on the canal, and we had a great time together catching up. I think Karl had trouble getting his head around the fact that our house floated in water and could move! Jackie seemed to love it and was hinting to Karl that a canal boat could be fun! Watch out Karl! We sailed into Loughborough for the night, turned the boat around and went to a very nice pub called the Boat Inn, then we returned to Barrow-upon-soar, turned the boat around on the wide part of the river and moored again near to where we left, then spent some time with Steve and Caroline in the rather excellent Navigation Inn in Next we will be sailing back to Loughborough.
