Branston

6th September 2019 – Branston – just like the pickle!

The water park at Branston – a real treat for the senses

Just up the canal from Burton-upon-Trent is a little place called Branston – and we have been told it is related to the pickle of the same name. We moored up near to a pub (of course). The canal is quite tight here and other boats will have to squeeze past cautiously. As it turned out the pub did not let dogs inside – it did have a nice garden but the weather was not up to the job – so we passed.

Arty moored at Branston.

There are quite a few shops here at Branston which is handy as we seem to always need something or another! There is also another pub in town near to where the co-op is, but at the moment we are running a dry boat! Three days and counting since the last beer. We will not hold out much longer. To get to the town from the canal we need to use the underpass, so we will do all that in the morning. Just up the way on the canal is the water park, so that’s our first port of call.

The water park is lovely, very serene and calm and the landscape around the huge gravel quarry which has filled to make the lakes is beautiful. Lots of walks with wildlife all around without any noisy roads or railways makes for an idyllic place to while away the day. Then there is shopping! We needed some stuff so it was off to co-op in the morning. To get there you need to go via a subway under the rather large roundabout junction. As you can see from the picture above it is quite a long one!

So that’s the shopping done. We now need to get pumped out at the marina where we will be leaving the boat while we go back to Swindon for all the stuff we need to do, and to see the kids. it will be good to check the place out before we do, so its worked out well. Of course, we need to keep ourselves busy until then, so we are going to Alrewas for a few days, then we will turn around and go back to the marina at Barton Turn.
