Elworth

29th June 2020 -Coming to the end of the locks at Elworth

Wendy doing the easy bit of playing with the doors, whilst I have all the work looking after the throttle!

So this part of the Trent and Mersey is a bit, well, em – DULL! It’s all lovely and green but there really is not a lot to look at. Sometimes countryside is just boring! Of course, there is not so much to look at when you are ploughing into locks one after the other with few breaks in between. Saying that, the weather was kind with just a few spots of rain from time to time. There was a few gusts knocking around which made the sailing a bit more interesting, but other than that I have to say this part of the journey was a bit – unremarkable.

Still, the Shroppy beacons! From what I have read the Middlewich branch is really pretty and has some great mooring along it – so I am looking forward to that. I am also looking forward to having fewer locks! To be honest, they are not so bad once you get used to them. Of course, Wendy says I have it easy being on the boat and fiddling with the throttle all the time, but we both know that is the hard bit and opening a few doors and paddles is no big deal.

We were going to get a pump out at a boat yard just near to this mooring, however when I called them to confirm it was still OK it turns out they are full of boats and we would not be able to get to the pump. Not to worry, there are a couple of boat yards along the way and I am sure one can fit us in.
