4th-7th October 2019 – Great Heywood

From Rigeley we sailed for a few hours up to Great Haywood, where we went into the marina and had a pump out and diesel, then turned around and moored up. Our plan is to stay here over the weekend and then set sail on the way back on Monday or Tuesday. The moorings here are all limited to 48 hours, so we may well move the boat but remain in Great Heywood. There is a Junction here which takes you onto the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal. The junction is crowned by a lovely old bridge, which is very picturesque.

The river Trent runs alongside the canal at Great Haywood
The river is very pretty here
Cool bridge over the Trent
A really unusual tower on the local church
A very nice pub (which we did not visit!)
Enter the village under the railway
Once we are done here we will sail back to Rigeley as there are shops and things there. We are really now biding our time until they reopen the Alrewas river section and we can start making our way to the marina for mooring over the winter. Fingers crossed the section opens soon.
