2nd October 2019 – Handsacre

Out of the blue Wednesday was a wonderful oasis of sunshine in the midst of grey and showery weather. This made the sail from Fradley Junction wonderful. This part of the Trent & Mersey canal is very pretty and picturesque. There are only four locks between Fradley and Handsacre, so the journey was easy going and we took our time to bask in the verdant surroundings.

What a wonderful start to the day
Filling with water at Fradley – check that blue sky!
Wendy hard at work on the lock door – bad back be damned!
Lovely countryside all around
Far to much chatting going on!
Wide open countryside too – you spoil us T&M!
Sadly we were not able to moor as close as we like to the pub
The end of a lovely day

We walked into the town to have a look around, and we noticed that next to the pub we had moored next to was a fish bar! So fish and chips tonight – yeah! The town is really nice, a little sparse but it has a nice little shop and loads of pubs! My kind of town. Well, actually we need to go easy on the pubs as it’s habit forming! There is a pub here called The Olde Peculiar, and it’s a Theakston tied house too – one of my favourite breweries and Old Peculiar is one of my favourite beers – so I have to check this place out.

Hmm, well that was a disappointment as Old Peculiar was out and my first pint of Pedigree was off!! Still, the staff here are great and they changed the barrel and pulled me a new one – which was absolutely spot on! Even with the lack of Old Peculiar on tap this pub is lovely and like a proper local – definitely visiting this place on the return trip.
