Milton Keynes

25th – Ron and Lyn Day 2 – Milton Keynes

Going through the locks at Stoke Bruerne

After a good nights sleep we set off to get through the locks down into the main drag into Milton Keynes, however at the moment the locks are on a restricted time schedule so you cannot enter the locks before 10:00 and the last boat in is at 15:00.

The locks were not too bad and the weather was not too hot at the start, however by the time we got to the last few locks the heat was scorching. Wendy nearly passed out on the last lock and only an ice cold drink from our fridge was able to revive her.

About half way down the canal we stopped outside a pub – literally on their own mooring and had a drink or three and a quick bite to eat. The beer was lovely and the place we sat was in the shade – which was just as well as the temperature was up in the 30’s

From the pub we had a few hours sailing into Milton Keynes and the plan was to moor outside the ASDA store, which wendy was hoping would be a big one with clothes and all the other stuff. It was hot, hot, hot and really muggy as well. My thoughts were more concerned with getting to sleep! Still the canal in the sun is beautiful. Milton Keynes was quite unusual and not at all what I was expecting. Rather than dirty, congested and generally a bit crap, it was really very nice with lots of trees and beautiful gardens and some countryside around us – really quite nice.
