On the Canal Network at last

23nd July 2019 – on the Stratford canal at last.

Dave has done his best to repair the toilet and he’s temporary fix seems to be working great. We will need to order the parts and pick them up from the post office at Wilmcote.

Stratford is lovely, really lovely. The whole place has a very old world feel to it with the black and white houses in the high street. The recreation ground where we were moored was spectacular. Definately a place to visit if you get the chance.

We came off the river into the ‘basin’ via a clapped out lock which meant I had to drop Wendy off so she could set the lock for us to go up from the river – all with a million people watching. Anyway, we go up into the basin and then sailed under a couple of bridges into some other locks. God they are tight! So tight I got stuck because our mooring fenders add too much width to the boat! So after some faffing we remove all the fenders and got through the locks up onto the canal proper.

I forgot how tight the bridges on canal are too, lots of bumps along the way. Not a lot of fun and I don’t think Wendy and I particularly enjoyed this bit of the journey – but we’re off the river and on the cut! We moored after the first 6 locks for a rest and to ready ourselves the for 11 locks tomorrow to get us to Wilmcote where the part for the loo will be turning up.

Here we are moored for the first night on the Statford canal – not the best of days, very tiring and rather uninspired surroundings.
