28th August 2019 – Shardlow

So for one reason or another we decided that we would look for somewhere to leave Arty on the Trent & Mersey canal, rather than the river. When you think about it, she’ll be safest away from a big town with loads of people milling about, so we opted for somewhere a bit out of the way and where she’ll be behind lock and key. So we’ve got to sail down the canal now, rather than going into Nottingham. We’ll do that another time. So, Trent and & Mersey here we come! First stop is a little place called Shardlow, which is nothing special but does seem to have loads of pubs!
The trend river gets to be huge at the junction with the river soar, which we sail up to get to the canal. Sadly, Wendy had some technical issues with the camera and we did not get any shots of it! Never mind, it will remain in our memories for years to come.

These locks (there are two of them) are hydraulic and you just press a button to operate them!
